Robotics Engineering is one of the highly sought branches in today’s time. It deals with the research, management and application of robotics in various fields of applications including industry and medical sciences.
The Robotics Engineer are well taken by organizations like TATA, Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO), Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (BHEL), Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), Tech Mahindra, DiFACTO Robotics and Automation, and Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) to name a few.
These engineers learn about artificial intelligence and other advanced technologies to create and use robots.
As well know that robots are the machines that carry on the tasks which is otherwise risky, time-consuming and needs precision. So, a Robotics Engineer needs to design and creates robots.
In fact, Robotics Engineering is combination of mechanical engineering and electrical engineering and the pass-outs often take the role of Robotics Programmers, Robotics Engineer, Robotics Technician, Robotics Test Engineer, Robotics Maintenance Engineer, Senior Robotics Specialist and Product Design Engineer, with a starting salary of around INR 4 – 5 lakhs per annum.
However, before you actually go for Robotics Engineering, you need to assess your innate traits and go through tests like Stream Selector. This is necessary as a Robotics Engineer needs to be a good supervisor, must have problem solving skills apart from having analytical mind-set, interest in carrying necessary researches, and ability to do multitasking.
While the eligibility for B.Tech/BE courses is 10+2 with Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry from a recognized board, the PG courses seek B.Tech pass-outs in disciplines like Robotics or Engineering or Electrical or Mechanical or Electronics or Computer Science & Engineering etc. from a recognized university.
One may even pursue Ph.D. in Robotics Engineering after completing their Masters (with a minimum 55% marks) in the respective field from a recognized university.
The scope of Robotics Engineers is tremendous and with the infusion of AI and machine learning, we find engineers getting into researches, gaming industry, security, mining, space, aeronautics and medical industry.
Some of the major examinations are JEE Main, JEE Advanced, BITSAT, SRMJEEE, VITEEE and UPSEE, after completing 10+2 with PCM. The graduates can go for GATE exam get admitted in ME/M.Tech. the major specializations at PG level are Robotics, Mechatronics, Automation & Robotics, and Remote Sensing & Wireless Sensor Networks.
Once the students clear the entrance exams, they are required to appear for counseling sessions as per the criteria of the respective institutes.
Some of the major institutes who offer Robotics Engineering are IITs, Bharath University – Bharath Institute of Higher Education and Research (BIHER)-Tamil Nadu, Ajeenkya DY Patil University-Pune, PSG College of Technology-Coimbatore, Anna University-Chennai, Osmania University-Hyderabad, and SRM Institute of Science and Technology-Chennai to name a few. The course fee depends upon the institutes you take admission into and generally falls in the range of 4 to 5 lakhs per annum apart from hostel and other expenses
